The Process
What is paint correction?
The short version: machine polishing removes a microscopic layer of clear coat to eliminate the scratches and swirls living inside it.
What swirl marks actually are
Swirl marks and light scratches are tiny abrasions in the clear coat — the protective layer on top of your paint. They show up as circular haze under direct sunlight or artificial lighting. Most come from improper washing technique, automatic car washes, or wiping dust off a dry surface.
How machine polishing removes them
A dual-action or rotary polisher works a compound or polish into the clear coat at high speed. This levels the surface — cutting down the peaks around each scratch until they're flush with the surrounding paint. The result is a flat, uniform surface that reflects light cleanly instead of scattering it.
Why it matters before ceramic coating
Ceramic coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in. Apply it over swirled paint and you've permanently sealed those imperfections under a hard layer. If you're getting ceramic coating, paint correction first isn't optional — it's the foundation everything else is built on.
